John Vallis will host Bitcoin 2021 Conference in Miami on June 4-5. Make sure to set a reminder for Bitcoin 2021 Day One YouTube Live Streaming and one for Bitcoin 2021 Day Two on YouTube Live Stream right Now.
Bitcoin 2021 Miami has less than a week left and I am excited to see old friends and meet many new faces. Conference MC, Jon Vallis, is someone I especially long to meet and have a conversation with.
Vallis is one of the best Bitcoin podcast providers with his “Bitcoin Rapid Fire” show. He has interviewed Bitcoin clients of all ages and from all walks of life, from commoners to CEOs, developers, sovereign individuals and more. Running this podcast has changed his life since he finally found his tribe, he tells me. I think many bitcoins, including me, can correlate.
When I was fairly new to Bitcoin Twitter, Vallis was the second Bitcoiner to interview me on a podcast. It was great to sit down and talk to him about Bitcoin, life, and more. I really enjoy his look and opinions on things and he’s someone I listen to when I’m looking for a signal in the middle of the noise.
I asked Vallis five questions about starting his podcast, his experience interviewing Bitcoiners, finding a pure signal, the current state of the bull market, and what he’s most looking forward to in Bitcoin 2021. See below for his answers, which will allow you to learn more about the man behind the microphone.
What is the story behind starting your podcast?
It’s really very simple. All I was thinking about was Bitcoin, and then I somehow stumbled upon Bitcoin Twitter in the middle of 2019 and realized there were more people like me, and I started pretty much out of necessity to get some of these thoughts out of my head. My style of podcasting has always been to have open, relaxed conversations with people I find interesting, or with whom I share interests. I tend to explore the more philosophical or “personal development” aspects that seem to be emerging about Bitcoin. The best part so far is connecting with unknown commoners, and hearing how important the Bitcoin journey is to them. It’s really unbelievable.
I’ve hosted a podcast for many years, interviewing people from all backgrounds. Can you dive into this experience and share how hearing your guests’ different perspectives affected your opinions on life and bitcoin?
Well, it was great. A few years ago I realized that real relationships are one of the things I value most in life. I love the way Bitcoin allows people and how it inspires them to be who they really are, because you need both people to do this in order to really “connect.” Developing relationships with good, honest, principled, loyal, lighthearted, ride or die moms has been the greatest reward for capsule work. Of course, having a forum to post my thoughts and ideas, and mix them with those of my guests, was a huge plus in helping me hone my thinking. As much as you’ve affected my life, you’ve changed everything, man. There weren’t a lot of diet and lifestyle elements, that was always a nice thing, but I feel like I’ve found my people, and they all see a similar vision of the world, and pursue it with passion. It’s crazy how it feels to be a part of.
I know you care about truth, freedom, and asking questions to find out why things are the way they are. In the current world, with so much noise and bounty referring to the people around, how do people find a pure signal and where to go from there?
Tough question, man. “Seeing the truth” is not an easy task. Too much can cloud our ability to do so. All my life I’ve been trying to see things clearly, and before Bitcoin, this quest didn’t always lead me to the most positive realizations. Having said that, my attitude has always been “I would rather be tormented by truth than to be bred by ignorance.” I don’t think you can instill that kind of stalking in someone, who either has it or doesn’t. You should be at least curious. I think this characterizes a lot of bitcoin. If you keep asking questions you’ll get to the truth at some point, right? And I really believe that Bitcoin is a profound form of truth, which we are just beginning to understand. In fact, I believe we act in fact more than we consciously understand or participate in, hence the phenomenon of “transformation” and my interest in exploring it on board. So in a world full of noise, Bitcoin is the pure signal they should follow. From there, you effectively become a chemist. You use your exploration and refinement of your understanding of the reality of the object, to facilitate the same process in yourself. I find it hard to see a worthwhile quest in the face of what my friend Eric Casson describes as an “existential” being (Bitcoin). “Stranger than we can suppose.”
What do you think about the current state of the bull market, the ongoing FUD and the supply of bitcoin being devoured by the public and institutional players now?
I give less and less attention to the markets and all the scammers and scams, man. Don’t get me wrong, sometimes it’s fun and exciting and all that, but I care less. I’ve made up my mind, Bitcoin is IT. It’s much bigger than most people think. I’d rather spend my time enhancing my understanding or mixing it up and brainstorming with other Bitcoins than worrying about what a crumbling world of money is like. The more corn the bubbles can collect, the better.
You will be MC’ing Bitcoin 2021 in a few weeks. What are you most looking forward to at this gathering?
I am very excited about helping out with MC Bitcoin 2021, and thanks to the crew at Bitcoin Mag to call. I’m so excited about meeting and hanging out with everyone. I think the energy is going to be crazy, with everything that’s happened in Bitcoin and the wider world in the last year, I think everyone will be willing to mix it together.
