Apple WWDC 2021 begins on Monday. Here’s what to expect

As always, the new software we see on Monday won’t roll out to a wider public until later this year, although developers and eager beta testers can expect to get to it soon.

The latest version of macOS will be number 12. Its name remains a mystery, although Apple will likely keep it consistent with its current naming convention, meaning it will be named after the amazing Californian. By all accounts, this year will be a year of “improvement” for macOS, not a major overhaul of the desktop operating system.

There are still two main elements in any recent macOS update to watch out for. The first is any kind of integration or compatibility enablement between iPadOS and macOS. In macOS Catalina, Apple introduced Mac Catalyst, which was a way for app makers to more easily move their mobile apps to the Mac desktop. In recent years, Apple has also made some of its mobile apps compatible with the Mac – such as Podcasts, News, and Stocks. Of course, the iPad and the Mac are still distinctly different devices due to the touch screen (or lack thereof on Macs). But now, with Apple’s M1 chip powering both new Macs and new iPads, the hardware gap between the two is narrowing.

Then there’s M1 – which is the other keyword or phrase to listen to. This year’s macOS update might not be a massive revamp, but you can bet Apple will want to show you how app makers can continue to improve their apps for this custom silicon, especially since Some apps still require an emulator To run properly on M1 Mac.

There have also been persistent rumors that the new Mac Mac laptops It could be announced at WWDC next week, which would be a real evolution of such a software-focused event. If these are announced, these will likely be boosted MacBook Pro models – machines that will satisfy serious multimedia professionals looking for more power.

“I think Apple really needs to get back to its roots with the MacBook Pro,” says Anshel Sag, chief analyst at Moor Insights & Strategy. “There are rumors that the Touch Bar is gone, and there is still a chance to improve security on the MacBook. But I think they could go the iPad way and build an “X” version of the M1 chip, or the M2 chip, into the MacBook Pro and make it a better model.”

Personally, I would be surprised if Apple announced new machines soon after its inaugural launch M1 MacBook Laptops, which arrived in November 2020. But if the rumors prove true, it will only show how seriously Apple takes its custom silicon — and how quickly these new chips are being developed in parallel with the current releases.

Here’s the first great thing about Apple wrist computers: By some accounts, the Apple Watch is the best-selling watch in the world. Not only Among the smart watches, although this is also true, but All Hours. Here’s the second cool thing, which isn’t necessarily a good thing: there isn’t a lot of smartwatch competition out there. Huawei is Apple’s closest competitor in the smartwatch market, but the Chinese hardware maker has been sanctioned by US software sanctions. Samsung’s market share has shrunk slightly over the past year. Google is expected to release the Pixel watch sometime this year, and its acquisition of Fitbit may help Boost Google’s wearable offerings, but we are still waiting for both of these possibilities to come true.

So, like many of these software updates, a small tweak, a new placement of a complexity or a beta version of a healthy app has been revealed, and you think –Buffet, big deal! Except that you basically have millions of wrists, small software updates can have a huge impact.
