a Twitter video Submitted by former FOX 26 reporter Ivory Hecker, who is working to expose what she sees as corruption and bias in the network, appears to appear as the station’s assistant news director explaining the deliberate blocking of news coverage about Bitcoin from black audiences.
“She conveyed Bitcoin stories,” said a woman identified in the video as Lee Meier, assistant director of news at FOX 26.
“A five-year-old African American audience probably isn’t going to play. That’s a choice I’m making, an editorial choice,” Meyer continued, after cutting into the video.
Although the statement with little context and appearance was cut together and recorded as a video call on a smartphone, it generated a meaningful conversation about media bias and a general failure to realize that black people are interested in Bitcoin and should.
This conversation was continued on Twitter by Isaiah Jackson, founder of Black Bitcoin Billionaire (BBB), an advocacy group focused on education and preparation for bitcoin in the black community.

“This rhetoric follows a long tradition of personalities outside of our community who take the liberty of dictating what we should and should not be subjected to without any input from ourselves,” said Ian Gaines, director of operations at BBB. Bitcoin Magazine. Every time a voice outside of our culture tried to speak for us without first consulting, they were always on the wrong side of history. This is just another drop in the ocean of proverbial blind arrogance.”
The apparent media bias revealed in the video revealed a larger assumption about Bitcoin that the Black Bitcoin Billionaire is trying to solve – that Bitcoin culture is only relevant or interesting to white males.
“No single group has a claim to Bitcoin culture, the system is decentralized and accessible to everyone, and for the protocol to truly succeed on a global scale, it must include a global perspective,” Gaines added. “We struggle by owning our own narrative. This example with the editor is why BBB was created in the first place.”
