Listen to this episode:
In this episode of bitcoin magazineMeet The Taco Plebs,” I sat down with pleb Zac Watson (Tweet embed on Twitter), to discuss his Bitcoin rabbit hole story, his thoughts on Bitcoin’s impact on life and his future price predictions.
Watson went into detail about his friends introducing him to Bitcoin in 2013 and their passion for Bitcoin that sparked his interest in Bitcoin. We discussed Bitcoin 2021 and all the great experiences we had over the weekend.
In the end, we touched on what he thinks is the most amazing part of bitcoin: most importantly, the fact that bitcoin allows people to relieve government oppression to become a sovereign. We also detailed how welcoming the Bitcoin community is.
Here are some other thoughts from Watson on his bitcoin journey.
What is the story of the rabbit hole in Bitcoin?
My Rabbit Hole story isn’t anything too exciting or extravagant.
I first heard about Bitcoin when I went back to high school in 2012 or 2013. A friend mentioned wanting to get some, but I didn’t think much of it besides “Okay, that’s interesting.”
Fast forward a few years later to 2016 when I came back to it again: I had some friends who were lovely at it and were tech-savvy and free-minded. These guys were very smart and I had a lot of respect for them. They always seemed to be very forward looking, so I thought I’d probably start getting interested and learning about this magical internet money. A little later a year, some of us went to this music festival, Electric Forest, and my friend Brad had this huge pole of science with a planet Earth flag and a Bitcoin flag. Seeing him waving so excitedly and vigorously over the weekend really planted a seed and helped me eat oranges.
One takeaway from that trip was to start getting some of that bitcoin. I heard that halving was coming as well, which was obviously bullish for the price, so I bought some at the halving and have been collecting and accumulating ever since.
During 2017, I actually got caught up in some chitcoin marketing and the traditional talk of “must diversify” and ended up indulging in some chitcoins during that alternate season. I stopped buying it in 2018, and eventually ended up trading it for more bitcoin after it got deeper down the rabbit hole and it became more and more orange. The Bitcoin Standard has certainly helped a lot. Now I’m just a seated tunnel-vision villain doing my best to stay humble and stack as many seats as possible.
How has Bitcoin changed your life?
Bitcoin really helped change my view on basically everything. It lowered my time preference to focus on the big picture, encouraged me to appear every day as the best version of myself that I could be, gave me a whole new sense of clarity like never before, and generally gave me tremendous hope for the future of this world and humanity.
It is very exciting to go through this paradigm shift and usher in a new Renaissance era of abundance and prosperity. It has helped me find some peace and certainty in this current state of chaos and uncertainty that the world seems to be in. Overall, it helped me refocus on what was most important to me in life and reconnect with my principles and values. I have a whole new feeling of motivation and inspiration since falling down the rabbit hole. You don’t change Bitcoin, Bitcoin changes you.
What is the most amazing thing about Bitcoin to you?
Wow, that’s a tough question. There are a lot of amazing things about Bitcoin.
I guess if I had to narrow it down, I’d say either the Sovereignty that comes with it or the people involved. I love the way it is liberating and empowering so many people around the world and creating a large pool of sovereign individuals. It also seems to attract some of the greatest and brightest minds. It seems that some of the smartest, kindest, and most awake people are involved in and building bitcoins. I’ve met some of the coolest people in space.
Some people say that the Bitcoin community is nothing or that it is highly toxic. I think this is one of its greatest features. Starting to go to some IRL get-togethers was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I love being surrounded by people who inspire me. It is so refreshing to meet so many people who see clearly through lies and propaganda and have a solid understanding of the madness that is going on in the world. Shout out to all commoners, electronic hornets, royalty and freaks.
What are you most looking forward to in the bitcoin space?
I truly look forward to all the tools being built for the self-mastery and total freedom of humanity. It is very cool to know how many people are connected to an open cash network and to be able to take back control of their money and not melt it. It allows many to become more self-governing in the process.
It’s really cool to see everything that is built with open source projects; They are literally building instruments of individual sovereignty. There was this project in the Free and Open Source Software Dome [at Bitcoin 2021] Where this guy literally had this weatherproof case with a node setup in it, it connects via Starlink and a hotspot. Off-grid literal knot.
I also believe that privacy will become one of people’s biggest priorities, and it has been for me. I was trying to learn more about what Ronindogo and the samurai are building. These projects seem to be next level.
I, like many others, are also very excited about what is being built with Lightning. It’s pretty cool to see how fast that’s booming and where that’s going. There are many great projects in that area, like Zeus for example.
At the end of the day, Bitcoin was built to be a “peer-to-peer electronic cash system” and that would need privacy and speed to fulfill this role. I think we’re on the right track and it’s exciting to see as we gain sovereignty in the process.
Price forecasts for the end of 2021 and the end of 2030?
I think we will reach the Sat/Cent parity before the end of 2021 (over $1,000,000). I think we should probably do that by Halloween. I think it will be over $10,000,000 by the end of 2030 and will reach the Sat/Dollar parity ($100,000,000) before the end of 2033.
I think this is very bearish and that we can do this much sooner, especially with all the money printing that is happening and the world is heading towards hyperinflation in the Weimar Republic. I think we’ve hit the tipping point “all of a sudden” and are approaching our escape velocity in order to switch to full hyperbitcoin quickly.
